D Weddings Lady Chic Tablescape...

D Weddings invited us to participate in their tablescape design for the Spring Summer 2012 issue that is on news stands now! Every designer/coordinator was given the same theme to interpret: Lady Chic. They were looking for something classic and tailored (like Audrey Hepburn)...yet young, fresh and modern (like Kate Middleton). We were asked to work with a pale color palette featuring pink, blush, flesh tones, ivory, pale yellow and whites. Here is what we came up with, thanks to the help of some very talented vendors that collaborated with us (all listed below)!

We especially loved these French inspired mini croquembouche cakes that Frosted Art created for us. They were the perfect, unique touch to the table!

2011 Capital For Kids :: Color the Night

We are extremely honored to be a part of the Capital for Kids annual fundraising event in Dallas. This was our 5th year to be involved and each year the events keeps getting better and better! Capital for Kids is a network of volunteer professionals from within the investment management business dedicated to making a difference in the lives of children in need. Capital for Kids supports organizations that educate, protect and encourage the development of children in the North Texas area, and they also raise awareness of children in need of support.

"Color the Night" was the Latin-inspired theme of the party this year and was held at the Dallas Contemporary on November 17th. It was a huge success with over 600 guests and most importantly, the event raised over 1.3 million dollars for kids in need in North Texas! A special thanks to Rebecca Lorinne Photography for sharing these images with us.

The S&A Reunion Event

This past weekend I had the opportunity to coordinate a once in a lifetime event; The Reunion for former S&A Corp. (Steak and Ale and Bennigan's) employees. This idea originated from a Facebook page started almost a year ago by a lady out of Florida hoping to reunite old friends. Within a week there were over 300 hits from people who wanted to come together and celebrate the history of two of Norman Brinker's most iconic brands.

From day one of my involvement, I was captivated by this group of individuals. Even though the restaurants are gone, the culture and passion still exist 30 years later. All cultivated from one man, Norman Brinker.

I'm often asked what I like most about event planning. My answer is always the same: "It's the people." This past weekend I was reminded why I love my job so much. Thank you Norman Brinker!

Stacy and Jason's wedding vision/inspiration as told by Stacy...

"After many years in the wedding industry, when it came time to get married myself, I had a pretty strong idea of what I wanted. I originally envisioned an elegant, classic garden wedding surrounded by trees and sunlight and nature. However the one thing that I had never factored into my wedding planning was what my groom would want, so when we sat down to discuss it, I was a bit heartbroken to find out that the one thing he was adamant about was not getting married outdoors! While I was only thinking about decor and photographs (naturally!), he was thinking more practically, and he knew that unpredictable weather and an unforgiving Texas sun would make things miserable outside, especially in July. Eventually we compromised and decided to stick with the garden theme, but do it indoors, and Bass Hall was the perfect venue for that. Jason and I have spent a lot of time seeing various shows at Bass Hall, so it has a special place in our hearts, plus it allowed to me to create a lot of dramatic moments that I wouldn't have been able to have in a hotel ballroom or regular wedding venue. Eventually our theme became "Midnight Garden Party" which we reinforced using beautiful wooden tables, ivy covered balustrades, cathedral window frames made out of twigs and leaves, six foot tall boxwood hedges surrounding the reception area, two twenty foot trees which we placed alongside the dance floor, a wedding cake in the shape of a tree, save the dates which were printed on sheets of wood, strings of lights hung over the dance floor to give the feeling of a starry night sky, and lots of moss accents including mossy branch centerpieces, a moss-covered cake table, and moss covered picture frames for the table numbers. Because we wanted to keep things more elegant rather than rustic, we also chose lots of gold accents, such as 24k gold-edged dinner plates and flatware, gold Chiavari chairs, gold painted apples as place cards, as well as gold accents for the wedding party attire. Jason suggested that we add in a pop of color to stand out from all of the earth tones, so we incorporated red and green chair backs, red burlap squares under the plates, a red-to-white ombre strip of flowers on the head table, and bowls of red fruits such as apples, cherries, and strawberries on each table. To incorporate Jason's Louisiana heritage, we had a New Orleans Saints football field groom's cake and a New Orleans-style jazz orchestra playing during the reception. The band also led us in a Second Line - a New Orleans tradition - where the entire wedding marched down the streets of Fort Worth waving handkerchiefs and singing "When the Saints Go Marching In," which was hands-down our favorite part of the wedding day. It was also really important to us to incorporate aspects of our relationship, so we added personalized touches such as Rubik's Cubes favors (we learned how to solve a Rubik's Cube together on one of our first dates), custom-made crepes from our favorite creperie, personalized vows with quotes from our favorite movies, and we brought along our beloved dog Sallie Mae for wedding day photos. I love that our wedding was a reflection of who we are and what we enjoy together as a couple, and it felt like our personalities really showed through in our wedding, which was so important to us. There's not a thing I would have changed, it was the perfect day!"

Rebecca Beecherl and Landon Bell 7.2.11

Rebecca Beecherl and Landon Bell's July 2nd wedding at Highland Park Presbyterian Church and Brook Hollow Golf Club was centered around family and tradition. Rebecca and Landon were set up by family members who thought they would be a good match....turns out they were right! Highland Park Presbyterian Church was the perfect setting for Rebecca and Landon's nuptials, as Rebecca's parents were also married at Highland Park Presbyterian Church 30 years prior. Rev. Nelson Bell officiated the service...and Nelson's father, Rev. Clayton Bell, officiated Rebecca's parents wedding ceremony. Rebecca and Landon both come from large families, so almost all of the wedding party were family members of the bride and groom!

The reception was led by one of Dallas' best, The Emerald City Band! As always, Emerald City kept the dance floor packed all night long! Mid-evening, miniature tambourines were handed out to their guests on the dance floor. The tambourines were also used for Rebecca and Landon's departure at the end of the night.

Since the couple chose July 4th weekend, they wanted to incorporate a "Fourth of July" theme, but not in the form of the traditional red, white and blue. Instead they brought out "Fourth of July" food at midnight, including slider hamburgers, waffle fries and ice cream sundaes! One of the greatest parts of the wedding day was a surprise firework display at the end of the evening. After they danced the night away, everyone headed outside for colorful fireworks over the golf course of Brook Hollow. It was the perfect ending to a wedding on Fourth of July weekend!

Congratulations Rebecca and Landon! We hope all of your years together end with a bang!

After the brutal summer heat we had here in Dallas, we've all welcomed the cooler temperatures this week with open arms! Megan Adams & Stephen Brooks 2.12.11

Stephen "Beau" Brooks and Megan Adams met at teenagers at Highland Park High School. After taking a break for college, they reunited and married February 12, 2011. Megan had a very clear idea of what she wanted right from the beginning. "I wanted a romantic wedding and also wanted to include special parts of us, things that were personalized," she says. She originally hoped to hold the reception at her parent's house but settled on Arlington Hall at Lee Park because it has the look and feel of someone's elegant home and could accommodate the couple's 300 guests.

She brought in Junior Villanueva of The Garden Gate and Nelson Robinson of DFW Events to design the space. Working off a simple color scheme of crisp white and creamy beige, the designers set about giving Megan an unusual design that combined soft and hard materials and symbolically brought together bride and groom.

The jumping-off point was easy: Megan is a textile designer (meganadamsdesigns.com) who graduated with a master's in fine arts from the University of North Texas, and she wanted to use her latest fabric designs, inspired by coral, liberally in her wedding. Beau is an avid hunter, and "Nelson had the really cool idea of doing wax sculptures that included antler and pieces of coral," Megan says.

"I'm not a huge floral person, so I didn't do tons of flowers," she says. Instead Villanueva and Robinson created layers of visual interest using Megan's fabrics for texture, with a minimum of white blooms combined with deer antlers and different types of coral in an assortment of pots as decor and table centerpieces.

Her fabric designs were used on the wedding invitation liners. They were used for the girls bridesmaids' clutches and the flower girls' sashes. All of the ribbon - around some of the vases, for example - had Megan's pattern on it, and her fabrics were used for all the throw pillows for the reception furnishings, as table overlays, and on lampshades. Even the seven-tier wedding cake incorporated the lacy pattern.

The overall effect was exquisite, and it was a beautiful evening that didn't end until almost midnight, Megan recalls - the perfect way to weave their lives together.

Laura and John's July 16th wedding at Park Cities Baptist Church and Union Station was definitely one of our favorites so far from 2011! Not only was it packed full of stunning details, but more importantly...you could certainly feel the love that evening between Laura and John. They are a precious couple and we are so happy for them! During a design meeting, when they were discussing Laura and John's chair decor for the reception, Mr. Strickland jokingly said..."well, what is my chair going to look like?" So Nelson surprised Mr. Strickland with his own special chair at the reception!

On July 2, 2011 Catherine Nguyen and Richard Dinh were married in a traditional Vietnamese wedding ceremony followed by an American wedding ceremony. This was our first time to be a part of a Vietnamese wedding and we absolutely loved learning about their rich culture! Catherine and Richard's wedding day began with a Tea Ceremony at their parent's homes. Gifts were exchanged first at Catherine's parents home, then at Richard's parents home. Elizabeth Carlock Weds Kevin Phillips 5.7.11

Ever since the Carlock family moved into their historic, Highland Park home, Elizabeth dreamed of having her wedding there someday. On May 7, 2011, her eighth-grade dream became a reality when she married her college sweetheart. Elizabeth and Kevin met their freshman year at SMU and after a proposal in July 2010, the two started planning their magnificent wedding day. The wedding ceremony was held at Park Cities Presbyterian Church. Immediately following, guests were invited to stroll across the street to the Carlock family home for a wonderful reception. The front yard tent was created to reflect a traditional, southern ballroom, the beautiful home was open to guests and the back yard transformed to a chic, modern party. Thank you Larry Sengbush for sharing these beautiful pictures!!!

Because of the size of their wedding party, and the reception plans, Kevin and Elizabeth decided to see each other prior to the ceremony. Once ready, Elizabeth joined Kevin in the Chapel at PCPC where they shared a private moment. This is a GREAT idea for brides who would like to eliminate post-ceremony pictures, as we scheduled to finish all photos prior to the wedding ceremony...

The gorgeous wedding party! Elizabeth and Kevin were surrounded by so many friends and family that love and support them... to be exact, there were 15 bridesmaids, two junior bridesmaids, 10 house party members, 15 groomsmen, 12 ushers, along with two ring bearers, two flower girls and two officiants...

The wedding program... the artwork was created by the fabulous Susie-Melissa Cherry.

Kevin and his handsome attendants ready to walk down the aisle... the groom's party attire came from Culwell & Son.

The stunning bridesmaids...both the house party and bridesmaid gowns were custom creations from Jenny Yoo through Bridal Collections by Stella. Every single one of the girls looked absolutely beautiful!!

The wedding ceremony...the altar and personal flowers were provided from Bill Horton designs. As guests were seated, the Chancel Choir of PCPC offered a compilation of hymns. During the ceremony, there were two different soloists who sang special songs...between the vocals, the organ and strings, the music was fantastic! The officiants were the Senior Pastor of PCPC, Reverend Mark Davis, as well as, SMU's RUF director, Chad Scruggs.

Following the wedding ceremony, the couple led their wedding party and guests down Wycliffe Avenue directly to the Carlock home, adjacent to the church! The Highland Park police department generously directed traffic and closed down this stretch of the rode until all guests were safely in the reception!The reception entrance led to the formal, traditional tent in the Carlock's front yard. Guests were greeted by the James Davis Orchestra and wonderful canapes provided by Cassandra Fine Catering. Elizabeth and her mother, Laura, definitely had a vision for a true, southern wedding. The front tent was exquisite with beautiful linens, floral and buffets displays showing off their lavish menu... Tom Addis, the Garden Gate and Jill Fortney were the perfect team!Because their party was overflowed from the front lawn throughout the house and into the back gardens, we created menu cards for every table that let guests know the variety of foods available throughout the reception...Making their first entrance into the reception...Elizabeth and Kevin shared "L.O.V.E." as their first dance....The father/daughter dance was a sweet surprise to the family and friends... Elizabeth's talented brothers joined James Davis Orchestra on stage to sing "Brown-Eyed Girl"... so special!!A quick view into the entry of the house.... Elizabeth and Kevin cut their cake in the family dining room.... Frosted Art created a STUNNING bride's cake that was absolutely picture perfect!

And now for the back tent.... while the front tent definitely eluded to the southern, traditional style, the back tent was more of a modern, sleek look!! Between the furniture, lighting, tenting and acrylic dance floor that covered the pool... it was incredible!Elizabeth and Kevin were introduced into the back tent, as well.... only after Elizabeth changed into her second wedding gown! Their second, first dance was spun by the fabulous Lucy Wrubel!To say that the dance floor was packed would be an under-statement!! In fact, both dance floors were full all night long!Elizabeth tossing her bouquets to the girls...And the couple departing their fabulous party.... Elizabeth and Kevin departed the next morning for a two-week honeymoon in France....We wish you all the best and THANK YOU for allowing DFW Events to be part of your wedding day!! They are so intimate and usually more casual than the actual wedding day...so the bride and groom can really relax and soak in the evening as they are celebrated and toasted by their closest family and friends. Libby and JR's rehearsal dinner on Friday, May 6th at The Dallas Arboretum was second to none. First of all, Libby and JR are a darling couple...they had the PERFECT weather...and the details were amazing. We were honored to be a part of this one. Jenny Durbin and Blake Smith's March 26th wedding at First United Methodist Church and The Belo Mansion & Pavilion was one of a kind...and included a surprise flash mob dance at the reception (video below)!! Jenni is a former Mavericks dancer and now works for the Dallas Cowboys as a choreographer, so dancing is a way of life for her! We loved being a part of this one and wish Jenny and Blake all the best at they begin their lives together. A special thanks to the talented Edmonson Photography for the following photos and Beyond for the flash mob video! Enjoy!

Now, this is a great idea!! Jenny created a "crumb" trail of circular stickers that lead all of her guests from the church to the Belo. The Belo is only a couple of blocks away from FUMC, so guests were encouraged to walk to the reception from the church. The "crumb" trail was a huge hit and a really cute touch!

Landon's earrings were a gift from her grandmother. They were originally designed for her grandmother, given to her as a gift from her late husband (Landon's grandfather).

Landon wore a bracelet that belonged to her great grandmother.

Landon's garter and the ring bearer pillow were made from her mother's wedding dress and will become a new tradition for Landon to pass on in her family.

Landon wore purple shoes, a favorite color of Landon and her mother. Purple stands for good judgment, happiness, trustworthiness and spirit. Purple is a mixture of red and blue. Red and blue (representing female and male) symbolizes the power of creation, which is an attribute of God.

Bridal Keepsakes

On the eve of the wedding, Landon wore her mother's wedding dress that was redesigned for the occasion, and a hairpiece that was part of her mother's veil.

Decorative pillows that will adorn the beds of Landon, her mother and her grandmother were made from pieces of Landon's mother's wedding dress. Each day a memory of this special time will bless these three generations.

Church Kneeler

Landon and Zach knelt on a very special pillow during the ceremony that was needle pointed by her grandmother. Landon's parents also used this kneeler during their wedding ceremony.

The Bride's Cake Table

The bride's cake table was adorned with a family heirloom tablecloth that belonged to Landon's Great, Great Grandmother and namesake.

Silver candlesticks, given to Landon's great, great grandmother by her husband on their 14th wedding anniversary, were displayed on the bride's cake table. Landon's grandmother gave them to Landon and Zach as a wedding gift.

Landon and Zach cut the cake using a cake knife and server that belonged to Landon's great, great, great grandmother. Landon's parents used the same cake knife and server on their wedding day.

We are smitten over Anthro's wedding line, BHLDN. The website launched yesterday and simply put....it is fabulous! They have gowns, bridesmaids dresses, shoes, jewelry, hair adornments, cover-ups, lingerie and other fabulous wedding accessories. Currently, BHLDN is online only, but they have plans to open a store in the South around September (exact location TBD....come on Dallas!!) and 4 more stores within the next 3 years. Jenelle Hampton and Mike Bell were a pleasure to work with as we planned and coordinated their October 30, 2010 wedding at Perkins Chapel followed by a brunch reception at The Conservatory at The Plaza at Turtle Creek. Jess from Jess Graham Photography did a wonderful job capturing the elegance of this couple and the warmness of their wedding day!

We'll start off with a few of Jenelle's bridal portraits....they are just stunning!! Jenelle was such an elegant and classic bride....so timeless! The talented and sought-after Michael Faircloth designed and made Jenelle's wedding gown...

A day Jenelle and Mike will never forget...

Jenelle and Mike choose a morning ceremony (10am) at Perkins Chapel....it was such a lovely day! Jenelle was up bright and early on Saturday morning getting ready for the wedding...

Jenelle wanted to incorporate Mike's Scottish heritage into the wedding so she selected tartan ribbon that was wrapped around the stems of the bridesmaids bouquets and incorporate Scottish Thistles into the bouquets...

Guests enjoyed a Bloody Mary and Champagne Bar and a delicious brunch buffet by Kent Rathbun Catering...

The head table was adorned with a lace edged Scottish Tartan runner....

Sublime Bakery in Fort Worth made the delicious wedding cake. Jenelle is gluten intolerant, so she had to find a bakery that could meet her dietary restrictions. Sublime Bakery was the perfect fit! Only the top layer of the cake was gluten free.

Kathryn Zera marries Garret Kent 11.30.10

We were honored to be a part of Kathryn Zera and Garret Kent's nuptials on November 30, 2010. The lovely couple, who met 3 years ago in graduate school at TCU, were married at Christ the King Catholic Church followed by a reception at the Rosewood Crescent Hotel in uptown Dallas. Thisbe Grace Photography did a phenomenal job at capturing this incredible evening!

Bella Flora did stunning work on Kathryn's bouquet. The bouquet included peonies, hydrangeas, roses and freesia and was adorned with Kathryn's handkerchief and rosary.

A sweet moment during the ceremony...

Guests enjoyed cocktails, passed hors d'oeuvres and an opulent seafood ice bar in the Courtyard and Garden Room of the Crescent. The bride and groom share a passion for travel, so they incorporated their hobby into the reception, beginning with a specialty cocktail named "The Passport" which included vanilla vodka, amaretto, cranberry juice and a vanilla bean stick.

The talented Justin Cash played outside during the cocktail hour, creating the perfect atmosphere...

Pictures of the bride and groom's travels were placed throughout the reception for guests to enjoy. Individually and together, Kathryn and Garret have visited 35 different countries on six continents!
Guests were asked to sign a world atlas instead of a traditional sign in book. Such a cute idea!The Crescent Ballroom was filled with lush floral arrangements of hydrangeas, garden roses, peonies, phaelo sprinkles and vanda blooms. Lots of candles and hints of crystal embellishments were also placed throughout the room. Bella Flora did an excellent job with the flowers and decor!

How happy are they?! The choir that sang during the ceremony accompanied The Cuvee Band during the father/daughter dance to "My Girl."

The cake cutting....we love the draping that was hung behind the cake. It created the perfect backdrop for this momentous occasion. And the cake, made by Dallas Affaires, was simply elegant...and amazingly delicious!
This glass sword filled with cognac was given to Kathryn as a gift during one of her world travels to Poland. The couple who gave it to her gave her special instructions to open it on her wedding day. How neat is that?! The cognac was used for the toasts during the reception.

Cuvee kept the dance floor full all night long!
Guests received miniature pies from Tart Bakery as they left the reception. A donation was also made to The Alzheimer's Association, The Cancer Research Institute and The American Heart Association in loving memory of Kathryn and Garret's grandparents.
